Founded in 1963, Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. emerged as a revolutionary force in the automobile industry. Visionary entrepreneur Ferruccio Lamborghini, originally a manufacturer of tractors, set out to create a grand touring car that could rival established names like Ferrari. His passion for luxury automobiles led him to own several high-end brands, including Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Maserati, and Mercedes-Benz. However, his experience with Ferrari left him dissatisfied—he found their cars too loud and rough for his liking. After a dispute with Enzo Ferrari over a faulty clutch, Ferruccio resolved to build his own high-performance vehicle. His determination led to the unveiling of the Lamborghini 350GTV prototype at the 1963 Turin Motor Show. Although well-received, the design was refined before entering production as the Lamborghini 350GT in 1964.
Lamborghini officially entered the Indian market in 2008 with its first dealership in New Delhi, followed by a second showroom in Mumbai in 2012. Despite economic fluctuations, the demand for ultra-luxury cars in India continued to grow, with Lamborghini becoming a common sight on Indian roads. By 2015, the brand aimed to sell 40-50 units annually in the country, recognizing India’s potential as a key market for luxury automobiles. Given this expanding demand, Lamborghini anticipates further dealership expansions in the coming years.
Based in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, Lamborghini is globally renowned for its cutting-edge sports cars and high-performance engineering. Now a subsidiary of Audi AG, which itself is under the Volkswagen Group, the brand continues to set new benchmarks in automotive excellence.
Following the success of the Lamborghini 350GT, which saw 130 units produced, the company introduced the 400GT. The profitability from these early models fueled the development of Lamborghini’s first true supercar—the Miura. The groundbreaking Miura chassis, personally showcased by Ferruccio Lamborghini, made its debut at the 1965 Turin Auto Show, solidifying the brand’s legacy as a pioneer in the world of exotic sports cars.
